The Director of Strategic Partnerships and New Business Development job at BOMA is a senior leadership opportunity based in Nairobi, Kenya. This role leads institutional fundraising, donor stewardship, and strategic partnership development across government, bilateral, multilateral, foundation, and corporate funders. The Director will drive revenue growth, manage the institutional pipeline, oversee proposal development and grants management systems, and strengthen high-value donor relationships to support BOMA’s long-term strategy.

Position Summary

The Director of Strategic Partnerships and New Business Development leads BOMA’s institutional fundraising and strategic partnerships portfolio. The role is responsible for new business development, donor stewardship, renewals, and relationship management across government donors, bilateral agencies, multilateral institutions, philanthropic foundations, and corporate partners.

Based in Nairobi, the Director reports to the Vice President & Chief Impact Officer (VP & CIO) with a dotted reporting line to the CEO. The position plays a key leadership role in growing institutional revenue, building mission-aligned partnerships, and ensuring strong grant management systems.

Reporting Lines

  • Reports to: Vice President & Chief Impact Officer (VP & CIO)

  • Dotted Line: Chief Executive Officer (CEO)

  • Supervises: Grants Manager, Smarter Good, and additional staff as assigned

Key Responsibilities

Institutional Fundraising & Pipeline Management

  • Set annual institutional revenue targets and manage the institutional pipeline.

  • Develop and execute strategies to grow institutional revenue year on year.

  • Identify and cultivate new mission-aligned donors and partners.

  • Steward existing institutional donors to drive renewals and growth.

Proposal Development & Grants Management

  • Lead development of funding proposals and reports from concept notes to full applications.

  • Ensure compliant budgets and compelling narratives.

  • Develop templates for proposals, stewardship reports, and case statements.

  • Oversee execution of grant awards and deliverables.

  • Monitor reporting requirements and ensure timely submissions.

  • Maintain strong grants management systems, policies, and documentation.

Donor & Partner Engagement

  • Serve as liaison to institutional donors and partners.

  • Facilitate donor site visits and follow-up engagements.

  • Support EXCOM and program teams in managing high-value donor relationships.

  • Chair monthly Growth Council meetings for pipeline alignment and risk management.

Internal Collaboration & Compliance

  • Partner with Finance and Admin teams to develop cost-realistic budgets.

  • Ensure timely award setup, compliance, and reporting.

  • Manage internal and vendor resources supporting proposal development and grants operations.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, social sciences, management, international development, or related field.

  • Master’s Degree preferred.

Experience

  • 7–10 years of fundraising and new business development experience focused on institutional donors.

  • Experience managing government, multilateral, foundation, and corporate donor programs.

  • Proven ability to generate or directly close multi-million revenue.

  • Experience in nonprofit or social impact organizations preferred.

Competencies

  • Strong proposal writing and organizational skills.

  • Proven leadership and team management experience.

  • Knowledge of donor compliance requirements.

  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English.

Terms & Conditions

  • Full-time position based in Nairobi.

  • Approximately 10–15% travel within Kenya and internationally.
