Conservation Policy Officer, Kenya

Position Summary
The Conservation Policy Officer will support the implementation of Fauna & Flora’s Kenya country programme through policy engagement, advocacy, technical support, strategic partnerships, and conservation programme coordination. The role involves supporting conservation policy development, stakeholder engagement, project implementation, reporting, monitoring, and policy influencing at county, national, and international levels.
Key Responsibilities
Project Support
- Conduct policy research and assessments to support conservation projects
- Support meetings, workshops, and stakeholder engagements
- Prepare information packs, meeting notes, and follow-up actions
- Provide logistical support for field activities and funds disbursement
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, and cultural standards
- Maintain project documentation and data management systems
Technical Support
- Support implementation of conservation policy projects
- Track and document conservation-related policies and legislation
- Coordinate stakeholder input on policy reviews and submissions
- Promote biodiversity best practices among government and private sector stakeholders
- Support policy integration into county and national development plans
- Develop awareness materials and communication strategies
- Conduct data collection and ground-truthing activities
- Maintain databases on conservation policies and stakeholders
- Support project monitoring, evaluation, and donor reporting
Partnerships & Representation
- Support assessments of partner organisations and identify capacity gaps
- Strengthen relationships with conservation stakeholders and partners
- Represent Fauna & Flora in meetings and policy forums
- Support development of communication materials and presentations
- Respond to external enquiries related to policy work
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management, Conservation Biology, Natural Resources Management, or related field
- Master’s degree is an added advantage
- At least 3 years’ experience in conservation policy influence and stakeholder engagement
- Experience supporting multiple policy processes and partnerships
- Strong analytical, communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Knowledge of Kenyan government systems and policy processes
- Experience in evidence-based policy influencing and policy formulation
- Ability to work independently and in multicultural environments

- Salary: USD 17,280 gross per annum
- Working Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Benefits: 25 working days annual leave plus Kenyan public holidays
