galck+, formerly the Gay and Lesbian Coalition of Kenya, is the national coalition of LGBTQ+ organisations in Kenya, bringing together over 22 member organisations to advance the rights, dignity, and well-being of LGBTQ+ communities.

Position Summary

galck+ is looking for a Communications and Digital Media Assistant Officer (C.D.M.A.O) who will provide direct operational and creative support to the Communications and Digital Media function in executing galck+’s communications strategy.

The role is suited for an emerging communications professional passionate about LGBTQ+ rights and digital advocacy. The Assistant will support content creation, digital media operations, documentation, and internal communications while working closely with the Secretariat, member organisations, and external stakeholders to ensure consistent and impactful messaging.

Duties and Responsibilities

1. Internal Communication Management

  • Assist in drafting and disseminating internal communications between the Secretariat and member organisations.
  • Support preparation of communication materials for meetings and events.
  • Maintain updated contact databases and communication records.
  • Ensure all communications align with organisational policies.
  • Identify and support resolution of communication challenges.

2. External Communication Management

  • Assist in producing press releases, audiovisual content, newsletters, and reports.
  • Support management of mailing lists and newsletter platforms.
  • Assist in developing talking points and opinion pieces.
  • Support campaign testing and spokesperson preparation.
  • Assist in coordinating and documenting media and public events.

3. Digital Media and Online Advocacy

  • Support management of website, social media platforms, and newsletters.
  • Assist in creating multimedia content (written, visual, audio).
  • Monitor digital trends and produce reports.
  • Track analytics and campaign performance.
  • Support online engagement and community participation.
  • Assist in photography, videography, and live coverage during events.
  • Liaise with media contacts and stakeholders.

4. Documentation and Archiving

  • Document events and meetings through written and audiovisual content.
  • Maintain organised digital archives of communications materials.
  • Compile reports on engagement and performance metrics.
  • Support donor communication updates and case studies.

5. Advocacy & Institutional Visibility

  • Support advocacy campaigns and organisational visibility.
  • Represent galck+ in sector meetings and forums.
  • Stay updated on developments in the SOGIE movement.
  • Identify opportunities to profile organisational work and impact.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Relations, or related field.

Experience

  • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in communications or digital media.
  • Experience managing social media platforms.
  • Experience creating written and multimedia content.
  • Experience in NGO, civil society, or human rights work is an advantage.

Required Competencies and Skills

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in graphic design tools (Canva, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Basic video editing skills (CapCut, Adobe Premiere).
  • Experience with social media management tools.
  • Familiarity with WordPress or CMS platforms.
  • Basic knowledge of email marketing tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
